Hyderabad: In a shocking display of neglect at Warangal’s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, grieving family members carried a woman’s body in their arms to a waiting vehicle on Friday, February 13, after staff denied them a stretcher.
The patient, from Khammam, had been rushed to the facility following a heart attack and died during treatment. A video circulating on social media captured two men hoisting the body awkwardly until they reached the vehicle.
This incident echoes a heartbreaking 2019 case in nearby Karimnagar, where a father named Sampat from Konaram village in Peddapalli district carried his seven-year-old daughter’s body on foot after her death from liver treatment at the district hospital.
With no ambulance available—hospital staff claimed it was out of order—and unable to afford private transport, Sampat walked to the bus stand. A sympathetic bus driver eventually helped take the body home, sparking local protests over inadequate facilities.
