Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to get final voter lists on November 30

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has once again revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, pushing the publication of final voter lists in both states to November 30.

In Telangana, the deadline for issuing notices and resolving claims and objections has been extended to November 26. Andhra Pradesh has received a longer extension, with the deadline now set for November 20.

The revised timeline was approved after the Chief Electoral Officers of both states requested additional time. The Election Commission has asked the officials to inform all election staff about the change, publicise it widely through available media, and formally notify political parties in writing.

This is not the first time the SIR schedule has been changed in the two Telugu-speaking states. Earlier, Telangana was expected to complete the notice and objection process by November 5 and publish its final rolls on November 9. In Andhra Pradesh, the earlier deadline was October 22, with final rolls due on October 30.

Before the revision exercise began, Telangana had 3.38 crore registered voters. Of these, 2.64 crore submitted enumeration forms, while 73.39 lakh electors were categorised as absent, shifted, deceased or duplicate and removed from the draft rolls.

As of October 29, 92.81 lakh of the 92.88 lakh SIR notices generated in Telangana had been delivered, with 6,999 still pending. Hearings have been completed for 92.08 lakh notices.

The state has cleared 2.59 crore names for inclusion in the final electoral roll. This includes 59.31 lakh voters whose logical discrepancies were resolved and 30.64 lakh electors from the 2002 SIR who were unmapped. Authorities have found 50,690 electors ineligible for the final list.

In Andhra Pradesh, hearings have been completed for 44.28 lakh notices. Of these, 42.55 lakh voters have been cleared for inclusion, while 1.73 lakh electors have been found ineligible for the final electoral roll.
