Tea, biscuits but no samosa, discussions at INDIA meeting: JD(U) leader

New Delhi: The INDIA bloc meeting held in the aftermath of assembly polls was all about eating biscuits and sipping tea, said one of the participants.

JD(U) MP Sunil Kumar Pintu on Wednesday said the ambitious Opposition alliance meeting concluded having no discussions on any serious issues, news agency ANI reported.

‘In the meeting yesterday, big leaders of several parties had come for sharing in the alliance. But no discussion on the same could be done. Yesterday's meeting was restricted to tea and biscuits,’ Kumar Pintu was quoted as saying.

Touching upon the Congress’ statement about the paucity of funds, the JD(U) leader said the grand old party was looking for donations of of ₹ 138, ₹ 1380 or ₹ 13,800.

‘The donations are yet to come in. So, yesterday's meeting finished on just tea and biscuits without samosa and without any discussion on any serious issue,’ he said.

Right at the formation of the ragtag alliance involving 28 parties, many observers found more dissimilarities than unifying factors in it essential for any alliance to prevail.

The last assembly polls showcased how fragile the alliance was when it came to sharing seats and devising strategies.

Meanwhile, now a proposal for presenting Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge as the Prime Ministerial candidate has been bandied about in the media.

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal-United (JDU) Supremo Nitish Kumar is reportedly ‘unhappy’ over the proposal.

Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir said there must be some ‘vested interests’ behind the reports of Nitish Kumar being ‘unhappy’.

‘The meeting went on for five to six hours. The meeting was crucial and effective. It was concluded on a good note. If some media reports are claiming that Nitish Kumarji was unhappy over the meeting, there might be some 'vested interest' but I reckon that he is the convener of the alliance and he will make it reach its destination", Ahmad Mir said.

The fourth meeting of INDIA bloc passed the resolutions on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the suspension of MPs from Parliament.

The meeting gathers importance as it was held after the assembly polls and also amid escalating tension between the BJP regime and the Opposition in the Parliament over suspension of MPs and security breach at the house.
