Tamil Nadu teacher chased, beaten up by parents of class two student

Chennai: A footage from Tamil Nadu showed parents of a class two student beating up a teacher in return for what they claimed punishing their child.

The teacher identified as R Bharat denied parents’ complaint that he had beaten up their child, according to NDTV.

The parents showed up at a government-aided school in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin to confront Bharat and barged into the classroom where the teacher was engaged in.

Parents started arguing with the teacher accusing him of beating their child and the child’s mother Selvi shouted that ‘it is illegal to beat a child’.

The three-minute video shows Seliv as saying ‘Who gave you the rights? I'll beat you with my slippers’.

As the wide-eyed other children looked on, the child’s father Sivalingam chased the teacher around the classroom, beating him up and throwing things at him.

As the drama went on another teacher began screaming for help to stop the assault. Police have arrested the couple and also the child's grandfather Munusamy.

Dr L Balaji Saravanan, the Superintendent of Police, said the parents of the child are charged with criminal intimidation, conspiracy and stopping government official from discharging duties.

The 7-year-old fell in the classroom while changing seats after the teacher had asked her to do so for not paying attention, and fighting with other students, police said.

Back home from school later, the child complained to her grandfather that the teacher had beaten her up.
