Chennai: Police in Tamil Nadu’s Kunnam on Wednesday filed cases against actor Vijay and 10 of his bouncers for allegedly assaulting a man at the state conference of the actor’s party.
Vijay’s fledgling party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) held a massive state conference in Madurai on August 21.
A man identified as Sarath Kumar claimed he was manhandled when he tried to get close to the actor at the rally.
‘I wanted to see him, so I tried to climb on the ramp. But bouncers pushed me down. I have sustained injuries, so I have filed a complaint seeking action against those responsible,’ Kumar reportedly said.
Footage showed a man hanging by the railing before he was pushed away by the security.
Another video released by The Week showed Vijay walking along a 300-metre-long ramp surrounded by his cheering supporters.
Just as people tried to get close to the actor scaling the seven-foot-high ramp, bouncers removed them.
Thousands of supporters showed up at the rally taken out at TVK’s second state-level conference.
At the conference, replete with cultural performances and flag hoisting, saw Vijay making a dramatic entry walking on a long ramp, waving at his fans.
In the following fiery address, Vijay called ruling DMK calling the party as his chief political rival and BJP ‘only an ideological enemy’.
‘TVK is not a political game; it is an ideology. This is not a speech for publicity. This is a warning to those who are in power. TVK is here to dominate. Crores of people are with us,’ he was quoted as saying.
