New Delhi: A 24-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death in the national capital by his friend, a Swiggy delivery worker, who attempted to flee to Goa but was apprehended within four hours, Delhi Police said on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla stated that the victim, Rohit, a 24-year-old vagabond who frequently stayed near Hanuman Mandir, was stabbed by Sher alias Kabir, 28, a resident of a slum in Bhalswa. The attack took place near the Mathura Road-Purana Quila intersection in the Tilak Marg police station area on Wednesday afternoon.

"Rohit succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. We formed six to seven teams under Additional DCP-I Sumit Jha and Additional DCP-II Anand Mishra, who swiftly worked on the case and gathered crucial evidence, solving the blind murder within four hours," Mahla said.

He also made a public appeal, urging citizens to assist accident and crime victims found abandoned on roads. "People should inform the police and, if possible, intervene to stop public altercations. In this case, many passersby ignored the bleeding victim, which is deeply concerning," he added.

According to the police, Rohit was reluctantly accompanying Sher to Nizamuddin to resolve a dispute when an argument escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing around 2 p.m.

Using a combination of technical and human intelligence, the police traced an e-bike the duo had used before the crime to Chirag Dilli in South Delhi. Following the suspect’s movements, the team apprehended Sher as he was preparing to flee to Goa. The murder weapon, blood-stained clothes, and the vehicle used in the crime were recovered.

A case of murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against Sher at the Tilak Marg police station.
