Delhi University students allege confinement by Police ahead of PM Modi's visit

New Delhi: Two students from Delhi University (DU) have alleged that they were confined inside their flat by the police based on "suspicion" just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the university. However, the police have denied the accusations made by the students.

Abhigyan and Anjali, who are associated with the DU unit of the All India Students' Association (AISA), claimed that they were detained for a duration of three hours at their Kalyan Nagar flat. The incident occurred shortly after AISA had put up posters across the campus questioning the rise in college fees and government cutbacks in education funds.

According to Abhigyan, at 8 am, they discovered that the police were searching for them. Subsequently, they were informed that the police suspected their involvement in an undisclosed matter, leading to their alleged confinement. Anjali emphasized their commitment to continue asking pertinent questions that impact students' lives.

However, DCP (Northwest) Jitendra Kumar Meena has categorically denied that the students were detained, contradicting their claims. The president of the DU unit of AISA, Manik Gupta, also wrote a letter to the Model Town police station, highlighting the incident. DCP Meena assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
