In a separate move Monday, the External Affairs Ministry evacuated six Assamese students from war-torn Ukraine to Delhi and Mumbai.
Officials of Assam Bhawan in Mumbai and New Delhi have made arrangements for the students to return home.
Himanta Biswa Sarma and other officials are coordinating with the MEA to ensure hassle-free evacuation and safe travel for students stranded in war-torn Ukraine, according to a government official in Assam.
Assam government has organized flights for residents of Guwahati, Gohpur, and Sualkuchi. The students are studying medicine at Ukrainian universities.
There are many other people, mostly students, from different northeastern states, including Meghalaya and Tripura, stranded in Ukraine. Chief Ministers and officials of the northeastern states are also in touch with the MEA to evacuate the people of these states from Ukraine.
