Students allege they were targeted, beaten after being asked their names

An FIR has been registered under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, against unidentified individuals after two schoolboys alleged they were assaulted while returning home from school in Mustafabad in Northeast Delhi earlier this week.

According to one of the students, a group of around 40–45 people attacked them after asking their names and allegedly singled them out because they were wearing skullcaps.

He said that he and his friend became the primary targets and that he sustained serious injuries, including a broken nose, a deep head wound, and multiple injuries to his hands, Indian Express reported.

However, a senior Delhi Police officer stated that the incident appeared to be a clash between two groups of schoolboys over a minor issue. The officer added that a case had been registered at Dayalpur police station and that an investigation was underway, with CCTV footage being examined. The exact cause of the incident, he noted, would only be determined once the accused were identified and apprehended.

The complainants said they had gone to a nearby mosque to offer namaz after completing their Hindi exam on March 16 and were attacked around 1:30 pm while walking back home. One of the boys mentioned that he lost consciousness during the assault and was later taken to GTB Hospital.

He further stated that the attackers seemed to be from another school and that most of them were in school uniforms, adding that he was unaware of the reason behind the attack.
