A Muslim family on vacation faces brutal treatment from hotel staff, Bhaskar Biswas, Subrata Ghosh arrested

Kolkata: A Muslim family from West Bengal’s East Midnapore district was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault at a resort in Mandarmani after a dispute over parking escalated on Saturday, September 5.

The family had reportedly stopped at Swarnamoyee Beach Resort while on vacation to enquire about accommodation. After finding the rooms unsuitable, they left for another hotel. However, a dispute broke out when a security guard objected to their car being parked on the road outside the resort.

Mohammad Asif, who was travelling with his family, said the guard initially asked him to move the vehicle. After he drove it forward, the guard allegedly returned and began striking the car and Asif with a stick. When family members intervened, resort staff allegedly joined the assault and attacked them with sticks and slaps.

Videos circulating on social media purportedly show the violence. One clip shows a security guard striking an elderly man while a woman lies unconscious on the ground. Another shows a young girl attempting to prevent the guard from attacking a woman with a stick.

Mandarmani Coastal Police reached the resort after receiving information about the incident. Following a complaint from the family, police arrested resort manager Bhaskar Biswas, 35, and security guard Subrata Ghosh, 45. Biswas is from Nadia district, while Ghosh is a resident of North 24 Parganas.

The two accused were produced before a court on Sunday, September 6. Police are investigating the circumstances that triggered the confrontation and the subsequent assault.

The Hotel Owners’ Association condemned the incident and said tourists visiting Mandarmani must be treated as guests. Its secretary, Ashok Adak, said association representatives had visited the resort and would seek an explanation from its management through a show-cause notice.
