SpiceJet flight turns hot before take-off; passengers experience difficulty breathing

Passengers on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Pune reportedly experienced severe discomfort before take-off after the aircraft cabin became excessively hot, with some travellers complaining of breathing difficulties.

The incident has renewed concerns over passenger comfort and safety at SpiceJet, which has faced complaints in recent months over delays and uncomfortable conditions on some of its flights, Free Press Journal reported.

According to an account shared by a passenger on X, the situation deteriorated shortly after passengers boarded the Delhi-Pune flight. The traveller claimed that the temperature inside the cabin rose sharply, leaving passengers, including children and elderly people, sweating profusely and struggling to cope with the heat.

Some passengers reportedly experienced difficulty breathing as the cabin became increasingly uncomfortable. The passenger alleged that the aircraft was subsequently moved towards the runway despite the conditions inside.

According to the account, passengers objected to the situation and refused to allow the flight to proceed until the issue was addressed. The protest reportedly led to tense exchanges between passengers and airline staff.

The passenger further alleged that the captain and other airline personnel responded angrily to those protesting and warned that police could be called if the objections continued.

Passengers later claimed that a technical problem with the aircraft had been identified. Some travellers reportedly staged a protest at the airport and called on the Ministry of Civil Aviation to take action.

The passengers alleged that the airline had put their safety at risk by allowing the situation to continue and demanded accountability over the reported incident.
