SpiceJet staff slaps cop at Jaipur airport over alleged harassment

New Delhi: Footage showed a SpiceJet employee slapping a police man at the Jaipur airport following an argument, NDTV reported.

Giriraj Prasad, Assistant sub inspector, stopped Anuradha Rani for not producing valid permission to pass through a gate along with other staff members at around 4 a.m.

Anuradha was asked to take a screening meant for airline crew at the entrance where, however, no female personal was present at the time, according to CISF officials.

The assistant sub inspector sought a female colleague to carry out the security check, triggering an argument.

The situation, however, had already been out of hand with Anuradha slapping the official, according to Jaipur airport station house officer Ram Lal.

Meanwhile, the airliner in a statement said that the female employee had ‘valid airport entry pass’.

The company claimed that their employee was ‘subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home.’

‘Today, an unfortunate incident occurred at Jaipur Airport involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel. While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India's civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home,’ the SpiceJet spokesperson was quoted as stating.

The spokesperson further said the company approached local police to take legal action for sexual harassment against the police official adding that ‘We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support.’

Meanwhile, police charged the female employee under sections 121 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (assaulting public servant) of Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
