New Delhi: AICC president Sonia Gandhi will walk alongside her son Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka on Thursday to energise the Bharat Jodo Yatra as it resumes after two days break for Dussehra festival.
The Gandhis together are going to walk for the first time today since the march started on September 6 from Kanyakumari, before entering the state on September 30 traversing Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Congress interim President reached Mysuru on Monday to participate in the Yatra first time after returning from abroad following a medical examination.
This is a long while since Sonia Gandhi participated any campaign at grass roots to take on the BJP nationally.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is passing through a BJP-ruled state, entered the 26th day of its almost five-month jaunt from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
The Karnataka leg of the march began on Friday when the party's national leader Rahul Gandhi entered the state via Gundlupet in Chamarajanagar district bordering Kerala.
The march in Karnataka will pass through Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Ballari and Raichur districts covering 511 km in 21 days, before entering Telangana.
A massive public rally has been planned in Ballari on October 19, according to news agency ANI.
Senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who is running for Congress president in the upcoming organizational poll, will also join the march on Thursday.
Since launching the Yatara at Kanyankumari, Rahul Gandhi has been walking all along making stump speeches, waving hands at the crowds and interacting with them.
The yatra will conclude in Kashmir early next year after covering a distance of 3570 kms across the rugged terrain of India.
Many observers doubt if the efforts of the party to revitalize at grass roots will pay off.
