Smriti Irani retains name in Amethi voter list under SIR

Amethi: Former Union Minister Smriti Irani’s name has been included in the voter list of Amethi under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, officials confirmed on Thursday. Despite her defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP leader continues to maintain her electoral registration in the constituency.

The former Amethi MP has been enrolled as a voter from Medan Mawai village in the Gauriganj assembly constituency, where she constructed a residential house. According to officials, her name appears at serial number 514 in the electoral roll for the Medan Mawai Composite School Leela Tikra Mawai polling station.

BJP Amethi district president Sudhanshu Shukla stated that Irani’s decision to retain her name in the list underlines her enduring bond with the constituency. He noted that while she lost the parliamentary seat to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma in 2024, she remains engaged with party activities and continues to visit the area. "She has conveyed that her relationship with Amethi is unbreakable and that she will continue to vote here," Shukla said.

Irani first entered active politics in Amethi in 2014, initially losing to Rahul Gandhi before defeating him in 2019. To cement her connection to the region, she purchased land in Medan Mawai village in February 2021 and performed the housewarming ceremony for her residence in February 2024. She had previously exercised her franchise from the same village during the last general elections.

District Magistrate and District Election Officer Sanjay Chauhan stated that the draft voter list under the SIR has been formally published. The revision process was comprehensive, resulting in the deletion of approximately 2.67 lakh names from the district rolls to ensure accuracy.
