Priyanka Gandhi brings up BJP "web of lies" in Amethi rally

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lashed out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party during a rally in the Congress stronghold of Amethi, asking the public what the BJP government had done in Amethi for 7 years even as it constantly lambasted the Congress for not doing anything for India.

"What did the BJP do during the first wave of COVID-19? The party was responsible for the lack of oxygen cylinders," she said about the deaths during the second wave many of which were because of the lack of adequate medical supplies like oxygen. The BJP has been "spreading a web of lies" ever since they formed the government both at the centre and the state, she said.

The Uttar Pradesh government had recently told a legislative council that no deaths in the state had been attributed to lack of oxygen supply, a claim which is furiously disputed by the opposition.

WIth an eye on upcoming Assembly Elections in the state, Priyanka also issued a slew of electoral promises which she vowed would help the people of UP. This included an active role in women empowerment with the Congress offering 40% of its available seats to women workers in the state, as well as promising to provide girl students with mobile phones and scooties for their safety and empowerment.

"Congress will waive off loans for all farmers and small businessmen, half the electricity bills, give employment to 20 lakh youth and ₹ 25,000 to all the families who suffered due to COVID-19...In case of disease, the government will provide healthcare of ₹ 10 lakh," said Priyanka Gandhi.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and sister Priyanka took out a padayatra (foot march) from Jagdishpur to village Harimau where Rahul Gandhi addressed the public meeting in Amethi, his first in 2 years.

"There is a lot of talk about religion in the country, about Hindu religion "The fight in India today is between Hindu and Hindutvawadi. On one side are the Hindus who tread the path of truth, and on the other side are Hindutvawadis, who spread hatred and can do anything for snatching power," Rahul Gandhi said.
