Silkyari rescue: Minister calls Lalu Yadav’s remarks on Modi ‘ridiculous’

Patna: Home Affairs Minister Nityanand Rai said former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav’s statement against PM Modi over Uttarkashi rescue is ‘ridiculous’.

Yadav earlier said that the rescue efforts had taken longer time, requiring experts from across the country and abroad, adding ‘What credit does PM Modi deserve?’

Nityanand Rai came down heavily on Yadav saying that the former Bihar chief minister had not done anything ever.

‘Lalu Yadav's statement is ridiculous. He has not done anything ever. The efforts of all the disaster management institutes and the PM's frequent messages to boost their morale are the reason for the success,’ Rai was quoted by ANI as saying.

Nityanand Rai said workers were successfully rescued because of the 10-point agenda supplied by PM Modi, adding the world is in awe of the new methods and disaster management that India implemented.

Rai's strong reaction came after RJD president on Wednesday said: ‘What credit does PM Modi deserve? The rescue took so long. People from across the country as well as abroad had to be roped in.’

The nation watched with bated breath the process of rescuing 41 workers who had been trapped after a section of Uttarakhand's Silkyari tunnel collapsed.

The workers were evacuated on Tuesday morning after more than two weeks of intense efforts involving highly trained experts and modern equipment.

Meanwhile, the Congress party whipped up controversy after posting on X an animated image showing PM Modi waving green flag in front of Silkyara tunnel. The caption to the image said: ‘Install some cameras and then get darshan of Saheb’, according to NDTV.

BJP national general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam hit back at the Congress accusing the party of using the opportunity for political gain.
