Shiv Sena and BJP were never enemies, says Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: Amid the rumours of a possible reconciliation between the BJP and Shiv Sena, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said that the Shiv Sena was never BJP's enemy, though his bitterness with the Uddhav Thackery government has been evident many a time in the past.

Both Shiv Sena and National Congress Party (NCP) have accused the BJP is misusing central agencies against opposition parties with the goal of destabilising the three-party alliance in Maharashtra.

He said that Shiv Sena was BJP's friend but formed a government together with the people they fought against. He alleged that Shiv Sena left the BJP alliance for opposition parties. Last month, CM Thackeray had a one-on-one meeting with PM Modi. Shiv Sena said that it is a personal meeting as per protocol.

Fadnavis told the media that an appropriate decision regarding the two former allies coming together will be taken in view of the situation. "There are no ifs and buts in politics. Decisions are taken as per prevailing situations".

BJP leader Ashish Shelar has said that Shiv Sena and BJP may have political and ideological differences, but if we come face-to-face at public functions, we will cordially greet each other.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar had met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier this week. Cabinet minister Jeetendra Awhad, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, and Aditya Thackeray also met with him on the same day. Reports indicate that the allies are working through the differences.

The Congress had already clarified that the party will stand with the Uddhav Thackerey-led coalition for the next five years. The reports of strain within the ruling alliance were dismissed by leaders. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut tweeted that the MVA alliance will become stronger when more rumours were spread.
