Sharad Pawar admitted to Mumbai hospital hours after discharge from Pune facility

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday for further medical tests and observation, hours after being discharged from Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic.

The 85-year-old politician was initially admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on Tuesday after complaining of a persistent cough and chest pain. He received treatment and remained under medical supervision before being discharged on Wednesday.

His daughter, Supriya Sule, confirmed his admission to the Mumbai hospital in a post on X.

“We are admitting Baba to Breach Candy Hospital for further tests. Thank you all for your concern and good wishes,” Sule wrote.

Pawar was admitted to the Pune hospital with pleuritic chest pain, a condition characterised by sharp pain that typically worsens with breathing or coughing.

Reports indicated that his health parameters were stable before the transfer. His latest admission is for further medical evaluation and observation.

The development prompted concern among his supporters and political associates. Sule also acknowledged the messages and good wishes received by the family.

Pawar is one of Maharashtra's most prominent political figures and has remained influential in state and national politics for several decades.

He founded the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999 after breaking away from the Congress. Following a split in the party in 2023, he went on to lead the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction.
