New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat today, as part of the Ekta Diwas celebrations.
During his tribute, PM Modi stated on X that "protecting the unity and sovereignty of the nation was his top priority."
"My salutations to Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary. Protecting the unity and sovereignty of the nation was the top priority of his life. His personality and work will continue to inspire every generation of the country," said PM Modi.
At the Kevadia grounds, the Prime Minister inspected an Armed Forces parade and witnessed a series of performances, including a dance presentation by 300 women officers of the Gujarat Police. He administered the Ekta Diwas pledge to the forces' personnel and all attendees at the event, after which he witnessed the Ekta Diwas Parade.
The parade featured 16 marching contingents from nine states and one union territory police, along with four central armed police forces, the National Cadet Corps, and a marching band.
Special highlights included the NSG's 'Hell March contingent,' a daring display by BSF and CRPF bikers, and a presentation of Indian Martial Arts by BSF personnel.
School children also presented a piped band show, and the grand finale featured the Indian Air Force's ‘Surya Kiran’ fly past.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated annually on October 31 to commemorate Sardar Patel's birth anniversary. Born in Gujarat's Nadiad in 1875, Patel played a pivotal role in India's struggle for Independence and unifying the nation. He's renowned for his exceptional leadership and commitment to national integration, earning him the title 'Iron Man of India.'
PM Modi is also set to celebrate Diwali during his two-day visit to his home state.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and other dignitaries also paid tributes later the day.
