New Delhi: Renowned Bhojpuri folk singer Sharda Sinha has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi due to a health issue, the hospital confirmed on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring her condition and has offered prayers for her quick recovery. Sinha, 72, is a celebrated folk and classical singer from Bihar and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award, known for her songs in Bhojpuri and Maithili.
AIIMS-Delhi posted on 'X' that Sharda Sinha is receiving treatment at the hospital. The post noted that Prime Minister Modi is in direct contact with her doctors to stay updated on her health.
Her son, Anshuman Singh, shared that Sinha's condition is "critical" and that she remains on a ventilator. He urged people to ignore false reports about her death circulating on social media. "She is fighting for her life, and doctors are doing their best. We pray that she comes out of this. This is a difficult time; please pray for us," Singh said in a live video on Sinha's official YouTube channel.
Last week, Dr. Rima Dada, who is in charge of the AIIMS media cell, mentioned that Sinha was placed on oxygen support due to complications from cancer. She has been battling multiple myeloma since 2017.
