Restrictions on industries, constructions and diesel generators in Delhi NCR as air quality dip further

New Delhi: The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) has placed restrictions on the use of diesel generators, construction projects and industries as the air quality in Delhi NCR has dipped further.

According to Central Pollution Control Board website, the Air Quality Index of Delhi as of Monday morning is 452, which is termed "hazardous".

The control measures are part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) formulated by the authority in consultation with the state governments and field experts.

As per the plan, use of diesel generator will be prohibited in Delhi and other NCR towns of Ghaziabad, Noida, Greated Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram from October 15.

Large construction projects, industries, particularly in the red and orange category will also be under restriction.

The construction projects, including highway and metro should assure adherence to the prescribed norms/guidelines for dust management. The industries should ensure that only authorised fuels are used and will not operate without adequate pollution control measures. The firms will have to furnish undertakings with the state pollution control boards/ pollution control committees in this regard.

Various restrictions are already in force in Delhi NCR. Power plants in the region which do not adhere to the 2017 norms, industries not using PNG as fuel and others are not allowed to function under extant measures.
