Railways announces over 18,000 special train trips for summer 2026 rush

Indian Railways will operate more than 18,000 special train trips during the summer travel season from April 15 to July 15, 2026, to meet rising passenger demand.

According to the Ministry of Railways, a total of 908 summer special trains will run 18,262 trips across the country. Of these, 660 trains covering 11,294 trips have already been notified, allowing passengers to plan and book travel in advance.

The move is aimed at reducing waiting lists during the peak travel period, increasing the availability of confirmed berths, and improving connectivity between major cities and regions.

Zone-wise, the South Central Railway has approved 124 trains for 1,184 trips, with 76 trains covering 324 trips already notified. Western Railway has approved 106 trains for 2,078 trips, with 92 trains accounting for 1,667 trips notified.

North Western Railway has cleared 76 trains for 2,245 trips, of which 62 trains for 1,878 trips have been notified. Northern Railway has approved 76 trains for 2,090 trips, with 56 trains covering 1,535 trips notified.

Central Railway leads in volume with 74 trains approved for 3,082 trips, including 70 trains for 2,238 trips already notified. Southern Railway has approved 72 trains for 558 trips, with 38 trains for 133 trips notified.

East Central Railway has approved 64 trains for 2,711 trips, with 38 trains accounting for 1,060 trips notified.

Officials said the additional services are expected to ensure smoother and more comfortable journeys during the busy summer season.
