Rahul Gandhi to address ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur as Punjab Congress gears up for 2027
Chandigarh: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address the party’s ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur district of Punjab on Wednesday, an event the state unit is positioning as a major push ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Punjab Congress President S. Pargat Singh said Gandhi’s visit would give fresh energy to the party’s campaign in the Malwa region and signal to leaders and workers that preparations for Mission 2027 must now move into a higher gear. He described the rally as a platform to highlight what the Congress called the rights, future and justice of the people of Punjab.
The Congress leader said people from across the state were expected to gather at Fagguwala village, where the rally is being held from 10 am. In a post on X, the Punjab Congress had urged supporters to ensure a strong turnout for Gandhi’s visit.
AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot and other senior party leaders have been making repeated visits to the venue to oversee arrangements. Party leaders indicated that Gandhi is likely to sharply criticise the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government over its record in office.
Pargat Singh said Sangrur was chosen deliberately because the Malwa belt carries substantial political weight in Punjab, with its Assembly segments often influencing the overall election result. Launching the next phase of the campaign from the region, he said, forms a key part of the Congress strategy for 2027.
According to the state Congress chief, the party will focus on deepening its connect with voters, strengthening its organisational network and keeping public concerns at the centre of its political messaging. Mobilising workers and sustaining pressure on issues affecting Punjab will remain central priorities in the run-up to the polls, he added.
Pargat Singh expressed confidence that Gandhi’s presence would unite party leaders and cadres and accelerate the Congress’s election preparations across the state.
