Rahul Gandhi puts a damper on Gehlot's plans to become president

Rahul Gandhi on Thursday gave a hint to Ashok Gehlot that he cannot hold two positions in the party.

Alongside being the chief minister of Rajasthan, Gehlot is the front-runner for Congress president pitting himself against the probable rival candidate, Shashi Tharoor.

Talking to media in Kerala, Rahul Gandhi said he backed the policy of "one man, one post"

Rahul was quoted as saying that he expects the commitment made in Udaipur will be maintained, meaning the policy of one position for a leader.

The 71-year-old Gehlot is widely seen as the choice by the Gandhi family; however the senior leader does not want to give up the seat of chief minister.

Gehlot knows only too well that the young leader in his state Congress,  Sachin Pilot will not wait to get into power if Geholt tries to sail on two boats.

A rebellion spearheaded by Sachin Pilot had nearly brought down the Congress government in 2020,  but had to remain pacified with the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
