Jaipur: A surprising incident unfolded in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, as thousands of sanitary napkins, supplied by the Rajasthan Medical Service Corporation to Anganwadi centres and government schools, were found burnt near the Babaji Ki Talai area of the town.
The sanitary napkins bore the logo of the state government's UDAN scheme, along with batch number J.421 and a manufacturing date of August 2022, with an expiry date of August 2025.
According to sources, the sanitary napkins were transported to the forest area in an auto-rickshaw, after which around 3,000 packets were set on fire.
Upon receiving information about the incident, officials from the Medical Department and the Women and Child Development Department promptly arrived at the scene.
However, they only discovered the remnants of the burnt sanitary napkins, as efforts had been made to eliminate evidence before their arrival.
Nevertheless, some sanitary napkin packets, still intact, were recovered from the site. These packets bore the batch number, which will serve as a crucial element in the investigation. As these sanitary napkins were part of the Udaan scheme, the case will be thoroughly examined based on the information provided by the batch number.
Under the Udaan scheme, the state government initiated the distribution of free sanitary napkins to women and girls aged between 10 and 45 years starting from September 19, 2021.
Officials expressed the need to investigate why these sanitary napkins were burnt before reaching their intended recipients.
