Hope PM Modi mentions genocide in Gaza while addressing Knesset: Priyanka

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would raise the issue of the genocide in Gaza while addressing the Israeli Parliament and call for justice for the victims.

The Congress MP from Wayanad stressed that India must continue to uphold truth, peace, and justice on the global stage.

Speaking ahead of Modi’s departure for a two-day visit to Israel, Gandhi said in a post on X, “I hope that the Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji mentions the genocide of thousands of innocent men, women, and children in Gaza while addressing the Knesset on his upcoming trip to Israel and demands justice for them.”

She added, “India has stood for what is right throughout our history as an independent nation; we must continue to show the light of truth, peace, and justice to the world.”

Modi’s visit, beginning Wednesday, aims to strengthen bilateral defence and trade cooperation. This will be his second visit to Israel in nine years, following his first in July 2017, when the India-Israel relationship was elevated to the level of a strategic partnership.

The Congress party on Tuesday criticised the government for abandoning the Palestinians, highlighting that Modi’s visit comes while Israel’s attacks on civilians in Gaza continue “mercilessly.” Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, accused the Modi government of making “cynical and hypocritical statements” about its commitment to the Palestinian cause, while in practice, abandoning them.
