Private school in Bengaluru responds after FIR over fee collection without approvals

A day after the Sarjapur police registered an FIR against EuroSchool’s Gunjur Road branch over allegations of collecting admission-related fees without mandatory government approvals, the school management on Wednesday issued a statement asserting that it is compliant with regulatory processes and has assured parents that all approvals will be secured before the next academic year.

In a statement sent to this publication, EuroSchool said it “upholds the highest standards of compliance and governance” and “strictly adheres to all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.”

The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by a parent, who alleged that the school collected ₹1,000 as an application fee and later ₹25,000 online after assuring her that all licences and permissions were in place.

Education department officials later found that the institution lacked approval to operate, following which the police registered a case under provisions of the Karnataka Education Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Responding to the allegations, the school said that while EuroSchool operates multiple institutions across the country with requisite permissions, approvals for the Gunjur branch are “part of a defined regulatory process that is currently underway.”

“All required permissions and approvals will be in place prior to the commencement of the academic session 2026–27,” the statement said, adding that the admissions currently being processed are expressions of interest conducted as part of the school’s counselling process.

The management also said it understands parental concerns regarding continuity of education and is actively engaging with authorities. “We are committed to completing all formalities within the stipulated framework and timelines,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, education department officials have directed the school to stop admissions and remove signboards, and police have issued notices to the management seeking relevant documents.
