Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes first serving world leader to reach 100 million Instagram followers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has crossed 100 million followers on Instagram, becoming the first serving world leader and politician to achieve this milestone.

Since joining the platform in 2014, PM Modi has built one of the most active and followed accounts among global leaders, expanding his reach steadily to connect with audiences in India and worldwide.

He now leads international leaders on Instagram, with more followers than double those of US President Donald Trump (43.2 million). The combined followers of the next five leaders—Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto (15 million), Brazilian President Lula (14.4 million), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (11.6 million), and Argentine President Javier Milei (6.4 million)—still fall short of Modi's tally.

On X, PM Modi has 106.2 million followers, and on Facebook, 54 million, underscoring his vast global appeal, especially among younger users.

In India, he dominates Instagram politically too: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath follows with 16.1 million, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has 12.6 million.

PM Modi's popularity extends beyond social media. Statista data from December 2025 ranked him highest with a 70% approval rating, ahead of Japan's Sanae Takaichi (63%), Argentina's Javier Milei (60%), and Trump (43%, 11th). Recent Morning Consult polling (Feb 2-8, 2026) showed him at 67%, still topping the list with Trump at 40% (11th).
