PM Modi, Polish counterpart Donald Tusk to hold talks in New Delhi today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in New Delhi on Thursday, with the two sides expected to discuss ways to expand cooperation in defence, trade, technology and energy.

The leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual concern, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and India’s relations with the European Union.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to call on the visiting Polish leader later in the day.

Tusk arrived in the national capital on Wednesday evening on a three-day official visit. He was received at the airport by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries.

Talks between the two sides are likely to cover defence manufacturing, trade, emerging technologies, space research and renewable energy. The two leaders are also expected to review regional and global security issues.

Tusk is accompanied by Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domanski and a high-level business delegation. The Polish leader is scheduled to take part in business forums in New Delhi and Bengaluru during his visit.

This is Tusk’s second visit to India as Poland’s Prime Minister. He had earlier travelled to the country in 2010 during his previous tenure.

Modi and Tusk last met in 2024 in Warsaw, when the Indian Prime Minister’s visit led to the elevation of bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership.

After his engagements in Delhi, Tusk will travel to Bengaluru, where he is expected to meet business leaders from the information technology and space sectors. An India-Poland Business Forum will be held in New Delhi on October 22 and in Bengaluru on October 23.
