‘Possessed by ghost’: Man tries to open IndiGo flight emergency door

Varanasi: A tense situation unfolded aboard an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Varanasi on Saturday after a passenger allegedly attempted to open the aircraft’s emergency exit door twice during the journey, prompting swift action by the crew and pilots to ensure passenger safety, reports NDTV.

The incident occurred on flight 6E-185, which departed from Bengaluru at around 8:15 pm. According to officials, the passenger, identified as Mohammad Adnan from Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district, first tried to tamper with the emergency exit door shortly after take-off. Cabin crew members quickly intervened, and the passenger reportedly described the act as accidental. He was cautioned and remained calm for the remainder of the flight.

However, the situation escalated again just minutes before landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. With the aircraft at a low altitude, the passenger allegedly made a second attempt to operate the emergency exit. The crew immediately alerted the cockpit, prompting the pilot to abort the landing approach as a precautionary measure.

A go-around was conducted, and the aircraft safely landed at approximately 10:35 pm. While no injuries were reported, passengers were said to be shaken by the sequence of events, later expressing appreciation for the crew’s prompt and composed response.

Following standard security procedures, the passenger was handed over to airline security and personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force upon arrival. Local police were informed, and a case was registered.

During questioning, the passenger initially expressed confusion over his actions and later attributed his behaviour to a paranormal influence. He subsequently stated that he was unaware that the handle he had pulled controlled the emergency exit door. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
