Srinagar: The Kashmir Police yesterday arrested a journalist over the charges of glorifying terrorist activities, with the intention of damaging the image of law enforcement agencies in the Union Territory.
Fahad Shah is the editor-in-chief of the online news magazine, 'thekashmirwalla', whose social media posts have been counted to be objectionable to the integrity of the nation.
The J&K Police statement regarding Fahad's arrest reads, "the social media posts are tantamount to glorify terrorist activities and intending to create fear among the public to disturb law and order."
The statement further reads that some people are indulging in sharing anti-national posts on social media, including photographs, videos and posts with criminal intention to create a law and order situation.
"The investigation into the matter is in progress," the statement said.
Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said on Twitter, "Standing up for the truth is deemed anti-national. Showing the mirror to a deeply intolerant & authoritarian government is also anti-national. Fahad's journalistic work speaks for itself & depicts the ground reality unpalatable to GOI. How many Fahads will you arrest?"
The digital magazine started in 2011, reports on news and other socio-cultural issues from J&K.
