Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a joint India-Singapore ministerial delegation that includes Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong.
A statement by the Prime Minister's office said that the establishment of the ISMR is a path-breaking initiative that was envisioned by Modi and reflects the unique nature of the India-Singapore bilateral relationship. The ministers briefed the Prime Minister about the outcomes of the inaugural session of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) which was held on September 17.
The ISMR is a new ministerial platform between the two countries, seeking to "deepen existing cooperation and identify opportunities for mutually-beneficial collaboration in new and emerging areas". It is a leaders-led forum to explore opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration amid the supply chain issues the world is facing after the pandemic.
The official statement further stated that ministers briefed the Prime Minister about the wide-ranging discussions held, especially in emerging areas of digital connectivity, fintech, green economy, skill development, and food security.
PM Modi said that he hopes initiatives like ISMR will help strengthen bilateral relations between India and Singapore.
The five-day trip is Wong's first visit to India as the Deputy Prime Minister. Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, and Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S Iswaran were part of his delegation.
