PM Modi assures to fulfilling dreams of J&K’s ‘resilient people’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Supreme Court’s judgment on abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as ‘historic’.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi hailed the verdict a ‘resounding declaration of hope, progress, and unity’ in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, according to NDTV.

‘Today's Supreme Court verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 is historic and constitutionally upholds the decision taken by the Parliament of India on August 5, 2019,’ the Prime Minister was quoted as saying.

PM Modi extoled the verdict saying that the court with its ‘profound wisdom’ has strengthened the ‘essence of unity that we, as Indians, hold dear’.

Assuring commitment to the ‘resilient people’ of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, he added that ‘We are determined to ensure the fruits of progress not only reach you but also extend their benefits to vulnerable and marginalised sections who suffered due to Article 370.’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who took on the Opposition in Parliament in the discussion over Article 370, hailed the PM Modi’s ‘leadership’ in this context.

‘After abrogation of Article 370, rights of poor and deprived have been restored and separatism and stone-pelting are now things of the past. The entire region now echoes with melodious music and cultural tourism... bonds of unity have strengthened... integrity with Bharat stands reinforced,’ he was quoted as saying.

A five-member Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud upheld the abrogation of Article 370, terming it a ‘temporary’ provision to ease the region’s merger with India.
