PIB fact-check rejects viral NEET-UG 2026 re-exam leak claims

New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit on Monday dismissed as “fake” and “misleading” a viral social media video alleging that the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination question paper was leaked on Telegram before the test.

The claim circulated widely across platforms, prompting swift rebuttals from government bodies. In a post on X, PIB Fact Check said the video was false and urged the public not to share unverified material. The National Testing Agency (NTA) also called the clip fabricated and said the re-exam was conducted under comprehensive security and surveillance.

The NTA warned that creating or spreading such misinformation to alarm or defraud students is a serious offence and said it, along with I4C and law-enforcement agencies, is taking action against those responsible for originating the content. The agency asked students, parents and the public to rely only on official NEET and NTA channels — including neet.nta.nic.in — for information.

More than 20 lakh candidates sat the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination across 5,440 centres in India and 14 centres abroad, with the paper held in 13 languages. The retest followed last month’s controversy over an alleged paper leak that led to the original exam being cancelled. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh said the re-test proceeded smoothly with robust security and no confirmed reports of a question-paper leak.

Candidates’ early reactions described biology as the easiest section and physics as the toughest.
