Paperless and contactless entry begins at Indian Airports today

New Delhi: Airports in India are set to launch on Friday Digi Yatra feature which will allow paperless and contactless entry through checkpoints.

In the first phase the mechanism based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) will be available at seven airports for domestic passengers.

Digi Yatra aims at processing passengers' details using facial features to establish their identity which is to be linked to the boarding pass, according to NDTV.

Today three airports like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi will get the mechanism. Four airports Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada will be in line by March 23, before the technology reaches nationwide.

To use this technology, a one-time registration on Digi Yatra app using Aadhaar-based validation and a self-image capture is required.

The passenger's ID and travel credentials are stored in a secure wallet on the passenger's smartphone itself, the report said.
