Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram took to Twitter on Tuesday and slammed the Modi-led NDA government for completing its seven years in power after surging the inflation, falling industrial output, declining rupee and plunging stock market.
"What a way to end the 7th year of the Modi-led NDA government : surging inflation, falling industrial output, declining rupee and plunging stock market! Add crushing taxes, growing unemployment and more people pushed into poverty and debt," the tweet read.
The Rajya Sabha MP further accused that it was the result of five years of colossal mismanagement starting with the Modi-let government's demonetisation in November 2016 in a series of tweets.
"Since then, every step has been wrong and the government will not accept that its policies and decisions have been hopelessly wrong," he wrote on Twitter.
Chidambaram alleged that it was the PM's fault as he does not tolerate criticism or heed well-meaning advice of distinguished economists.
He ended the series of tweets after quoting a couplet from Thirukkural, a classic Tamil language text consisting of 1,330 couplets or kurals with aphorisitc teaching on statecraft, citizenship, ethics etc.
" Remember Kural 448: "The king, without the guard of men who will rebuke him, will perish though there is none to destroy him," he wrote."
A few days ago, the former minister had similarly accused the government in a series of tweets for covering up its failure as regards the vaccination drive against Covid-19 through rhetoric and hyperbole and demanded that it be made a walk-in exercise.
He further slammed the government for celebrating vaccination drive as a ''festival'' (utsav) and asked what it is -- a celebration or a war.
"One day the government calls the vaccination drive a ''festival'' (Utsav). On another day, it calls the drive ''the second war''. Which is it?" he further questioned.
