Owaisi flags Assam CM’s post incites communal violence, files complaint

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday, February 9, filed a complaint against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over a “violent” video targeting the Muslim community that was circulated on social media.

The video, which has since been deleted, was initially shared on the X account of the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It drew widespread condemnation as it allegedly showed Sarma aiming a rifle and firing a shot at two Muslim men, accompanied by the caption “point-blank shot.”

The clip gained significant traction online, with several users describing it as an open call for genocide against Muslims in India.

In his complaint, Owaisi cited a Supreme Court judgment, stating that it is the constitutional duty of authorities to protect and safeguard fundamental rights, constitutional values, and the democratic character of the country.

He alleged that the video and its imagery, along with phrases such as “point-blank shot” and “no mercy,” constituted a deliberate and malicious attempt to outrage the religious feelings of Muslims, promote hatred and ill-will between religious communities, and incite communal violence.

Owaisi further accused Sarma of engaging in acts intended to promote enmity between religious communities and making imputations prejudicial to national integration.

The AIMIM president urged Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar to take immediate and appropriate legal action against Himanta Biswa Sarma in accordance with the law.
