New Delhi: After being detained by the Delhi Police, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said only truth will end this dictatorship. He criticised the BJP government for not being able to hold peaceful demonstrations and discuss matters like inflation and unemployment.
He further said that the government is misusing the police and agencies. "Even by arresting us, you will never be able to silence us," said the Opposition leader.
Rahul Gandhi led a protest and sat on Rajpath - the high-security avenue near parliament and top government offices - while Sonia Gandhi was being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate. He also called attention to issues like price hikes and GST.
While Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accompanied Sonia Gandhi to the ED office, Congress MPs carried out a march from the Parliament House to Rashtrapati Bhavan. When they moved forward to give a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, the Delhi Police stopped them midway near Vijay Chowk. They continued to sit in protest in front of Vijay Chowk.
Heavy police deployment including paramilitary and Rapid Action Force was seen in the area.
Rahul Gandhi sat alone in protest when his companions were detained first. He also clicked a photo of the policemen on his phone. The Wayanad MP was finally detained after a stand-off of an hour. The policemen lifted him and put him on the bus along with other MPs. While being led away by the cops, he was heard saying India is a police state and PM Modi is a king.
Rahul also tweeted a photo that showed him and former PM Indira Gandhi side by side. Indira Gandhi was, in a black and white photo, seen protesting in a similar manner.
