Nuh violence: 202 arrested and 55 FIRs registered as toll rises to 6 dead and 88 injured

Chandigarh: The violence and rioting that occurred in Haryana's Nuh district on Monday have resulted in 202 arrests and the registration of 55 First Information Reports (FIRs), according to the police's latest update on Friday.

The toll in the clashes between two groups has risen to six, including two police home guards, with 88 others sustaining injuries.

A police officer stated, "In connection with the violence that took place during a religious procession, 55 FIRs have been registered so far, and 202 people have been arrested. Another 88 people were injured in the clashes. The toll in the violence stands at six."

The Gurugram Police reported filing 27 FIRs and apprehending 38 accused individuals in connection with the violence in Gurugram and nearby districts that followed the clashes in Nuh.

Assistant Police Commissioner (Gurugram) Varun Kumar Dhahiya said, "We have filed 27 FIRs and arrested 38 persons in connection with the recent violence in Gurugram. We have also taken 80 persons under preventive detention," reported ANI.

The violence erupted on Monday during a religious procession, resulting in the deaths of two home guards and injuries to about a dozen policemen.

The situation in the affected areas is being closely monitored.

Haryana's Home Minister, Anil Vij, stated on Wednesday that there was a larger conspiracy behind the violence, and he assured that the culprits would not be spared. He asserted, "The culprits will not be spared. Whoever masterminded the violence will also pay. The rioters will be made to pay for the damage to public property."

"The violence was pre-planned. There were sticks, guns. Bullets were fired from the mountains, stones were collected on the terraces, and fronts were made. Whether it was arranged by someone or the other, it was done with pre-planning. Information about all these things is being collected and action will be taken," he added.

The Home Minister further urged everyone to maintain peace and harmony, assuring that the state police personnel and central paramilitary forces are adequately deployed to ensure peace. He also requested people to refrain from posting offensive or inflammatory content on social media and mentioned that an inquiry committee is closely monitoring social media activities as part of a thorough investigation.

He further said curfew in Nuh was being relaxed from time to time and that the internet services, which were barred following the violence, would be restored as soon as possible.

The home minister also said bulldozers will be used if necessary to take action against those responsible for the "pre-planned" clashes.

Following the outbreak of communal violence in Haryana's Nuh district, the authorities conducted extensive demolitions of houses and structures in the area and nearby Gurgaon.

As a consequence of the turmoil, Nuh Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar and Superintendent of Police Varun Singla were both transferred, with Narendra Bijarniya taking over Singla's position.

Just before his transfer, Panwar addressed the media, explaining that the demolitions were carried out on land that had been encroached upon in the district. The Forest Department officials cleared encroachments from approximately five acres of land near the Nalhar Shiv Temple, where the yatra had originated, reported The Indian Express.

Six acres of Forest Department land were cleared in Punhana and one acre in the Dhobi Ghat area of Nagina municipality. Temporary sheds were also demolished in Nangal Mubarakpur, according to Panwar. One shuttered shop located near the Delhi-Alwar Road was also razed, as officials alleged it was constructed on encroached government land.

A senior police officer told the outlet that the demolitions were unrelated to the communal violence and that none of the individuals whose houses were demolished were accused in the violence case.
