New Delhi: Huge cauliflowers of dust rose as the twin towers in Noida sank to their knees following the controlled explosion on Sunday afternoon.
The 100-metre-tall structures were reduced to dust within seconds of explosions which required over 3,500 kg of explosives.
Over 5,000 people from neighbouring Emerald Court and ATS Village societies have been removed to safer locations as impact from the explosions could be incalculable.
Demolition of the twin towers throws up the question of how the structures were given permission in the first place, according to India Today.
The Supreme Court last year criticised the realty firm, which was allegedly working hand in glove with Noida authority officials in raising the building violating the building norms.
Despite initiating action against the officials and Supertech, nobody is in jail even after the building was razed to the ground.
The report says that 11 officers of the Noida authority are under the radar and some of them have been suspended.
A special Investigation Team(SIT) formed by the UP government as per direction from the Supreme Court found 26 officials of the Noida authority, who allegedly had given approval to the Supertech group's changed building plans.
Thus emerged the twin towers, and twenty out of the 26 officials have retired, two are dead and four are still in service alongside four directors of Supertech were also named in SIT report.
The vigilance department in Lucknow registered an FIR against the concerned officials as well as ordering a departmental enquiry.
