No proposal to bifurcate Tamil Nadu under consideration, confirms Union Govt

New Delhi:Putting an end to the political debate state bifurcation, the Union government on Tuesday made it clear that there are no proposals under consideration regarding the bifurcation of Tamil Nadu and the creation of Kongu Nadu.

Two Tamil Nadu MPs, DMK's S Ramalingam and IJK's TR Paarivendhar had questioned whether the government has any proposal to bifurcate any state in the country, including Tamil Nadu, during the ongoing Monsoon Session in Lok Sabha.

The MPs had sought reasons, purpose and motive for such bifurcations, if there were any, and had also asked if the government has received any demand to bifurcate Tamil Nadu.

While responding to the queries, Minister of State (Home Affairs) Nityanand Rai said, "Demands and representations are received from time to time from various individuals and organisations for the creation of new states. Creation of a new state has wide ramifications and direct bearing on the federal polity of our country."

"Government moves on the matter of formation of new states after taking into consideration all relevant factors. Presently no such proposal is under consideration," he said, putting an end to all the speculation regarding Tamil Nadu's bifurcation.

The concerns regarding bifurcation was triggered when the BJP released profiles of newly appointed Union ministers last week, where it had referred to the party's outgoing Tamil Nadu chief L Murugan as hailing from Kongu Nadu.
