New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the kin of former Karnataka Congress MLA BN Idinabba regarding a case of Islamic State recruitment from India, The Indian Express reported.
The probe agency informed the arrest of the ISIS operative accused Mundadiguttu Sadananda Marla Deepthi Marla alias Maryam.
She is a resident of Bengaluru and wife to Anas Abdul Rahiman, the grandchild of former Congress MLA Idinabba, who died in 2009.
NIA said that the arrests were in the case of IS recruitment and propaganda spreading the agency registered in March 2021. It found that after the fall of IS Caliphate in Syria and Iraq, Deepthi Marla and Mohammed Ameen went to Kashmir as hijrah, or religious migration, in January and March to indulge in terrorist activities to support ISIS. Deepthi Marla and Mohammed Ameen were the leaders of the instant ISIS conspiracy as per its probe, NIA statement claimed.
Mohammed Ameen alias Abu Yahya, Dr Rahees Rasheed and Mus'Hab Anwar from Kerala were the first to get arrested in the case. In August, NIA conducted searches at five places in Jammu & Kashmir and Karnataka and arrested four people along with Ammar-Anas Rahiman's brother.
Two women were also arrested from Kerala, and the agency claimed that the two were going to West Asia to join IS. NIA has arrested 11 people till now under charges of raising funds, radicalizing and motivating people to join ISIS.
Twenty-one people were believed to have left Kerala and joined IS during 2016, and 13 out of them were from Kasaragod. NIA had filed a suo motu case against seven known and unknown people under a range of charges of IPC and UAPA last year.
It alleged that Mohammed Ameen and his acquaintances ran propaganda through various social media platforms such as Telegram, Hoop and Instagram in order to promote IS ideology and recruit members.
