Chengalpattu: As fuel rates continue to hike in India, a newly-married couple received bottles of petrol and diesel as their wedding gift by friends in Tamil Nadu.
A video on the same went viral on social media, where a group of youth were seen gifting their newly married couple friends, a litre of petrol and diesel on their wedding day.
The couple Girish Kumar and Keerthana tied the knot in Chengalpattu district during a time when prices of petrol and diesel are skyrocketing. At first, the couple was surprised to see such a gift but later accepted it in the spirit of humour.
The caption of the video shared was, "Amidst rising #PetrolDieselPriceHike, friends of the newly married couple, Girish Kumar and Keerthana decided to gift the couple One Litre #petrol and One Litre #diesel as a wedding present at their Wedding reception in Cheyyur in Chengalpattu district #FuelPriceHike."

In Tamil Nadu, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by more than nine rupees in the last 15 days. Petrol is sold for ₹ 110.85 and diesel for ₹ 100.94 per litre.
However, this isnt the first time someone has recieved presents such as fuel and other inflated commodities as wedding gifts.
Earlier, in February 2021, another newly-wed couple in Tamil Nadu received a can of petrol alongside a whole LPG cylinder and onions.
Yet another couple, in Odisha's Jharsuguda district had previously been given petrol.
