NDA trails LS seats in conflict-stricken Manipur; BJP maintains lead in Assam

The race for the Lok Sabha seat in Outer Manipur has intensified, with Alfred K. Arthur of the Congress holding a sizable lead over Timothy Zimik of the BJP-backed NPF. As a result, the NDA candidates are lagging behind in both of the Manipur seats.

The 13-month-long ethnic violence in the state and the state and central government's handling of it have dominated the election campaign.

The data from Nagaland suggest that the Congress could make a major comeback in the state. Supongmeren Jamir of the Congress is ahead of Chumben Murry of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, which is allied with the BJP. The BJP and the NDPP together comprise the state's current government.

Currently in Assam, BJP has the lead in 9 seats while Congress trails behind with lead in 3 seats.

Bijuli Kalita Medhi of the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading from Guwahati.
