Nawazuddin Siddiqui to play the lead in US indie film 'Laxman Lopez'

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will soon be seen playing the lead in a US indie film 'Laxman Lopez'. Filming will entirely take place in the US and will hit the floors at the end of this year.

The Christmas-themed movie is produced by New York-based Imagine Infinite Productions and will be directed by Mexico's Roberto Girault, reported Variety. He is known for acclaimed films like La Leyenda Del Diamante, Los Arboles Mueren de Pie, and El Estudiante.

The actor is currently at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Indian government delegation. He said Laxman Lopez had him "instantly curious" and "excited for multiple reasons".

"The opportunity to work in a Christmas movie is something very different and immediately had my attention," said the actor who is most popular for the Netflix thriller series Sacred Games. Talking about the director, he said Girault has shown his command over the camera and the way he can unveil new sides to an actor. "It is a welcome challenge I often yearn for".

He further said the name of the movie also caught his attention.

Director Girault said he is excited about the collaboration with Siddiqui. "The script is close to my heart. The transition of the story and the challenges the lead character faces are sure to have everyone intrigued".

He added that he started searching for the perfect person to play Laxman Lopez after first reading the script. "My mind immediately navigated to Nawazuddin. I have seen a few of his works and know that this role will bring out a lesser-known vulnerable side to him."

Nawazuddin Siddiqui started her career in 1999 by playing smaller roles. He gained recognition in 2007 for Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday. However, he is most popular for the 2012 film Gangs of Wasseypur. His other popular roles in The Lunchbox and Raman Raghav 2.0.
