New Delhi: A mother of two in Delhi confessed to killing her infant daughter by smothering, before hiding the body inside a microwave oven, police said.
On Tuesday, Dimple, 26, from south Delhi's Chirag Dilli area was taken in custody on suspicion of murdering her baby daughter.
The drama began at around 4.30 p.m when the police was alerted about a child gone missing, IANS reported.
On reaching the place, police learnt that the baby was taken to Madan Mohan Malviya hospital, according to DCP, South, Benita Mary Jaiker.
Hospital staff told the police that the baby was brought dead.
Police found that the mother was alone at home with her 3-year-old son and her infant daughter.
After asking around in the neigbourhood, police turned to mother of the infant and took her into custody.
She went on changing her statements during quizzing and seemed to be mentally disturbed. Eventually she partially admitted to killing her daughter later in the morning, according to the police.
The exact cause of death will only be clear only after the post-mortem report is out. Police are yet to establish the motive of the crime.
The family had two grocery stores beneath their house and lived on the first floor. The infant was found dead inside a microwave oven on the second floor which was not in use.
The officer strongly believed that child didn't die on Monday when the incident was reported.
