Minor boy in UP approaches police to stop father’s 7th marriage in Azamgarh

Azamgarh: A minor child in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh has asked the police to stop his 55-year-old father from reportedly planning a seventh marriage. The boy has also accused his father of accepting advance payments to sell family land.

According to authorities, the complaint was filed at the Atraulia Police Station. Station House Officer Amit Kumar Mishra stated that the youngster, a resident of a village near the police station, claimed in his complaint that his father had previously married six times and was preparing for a seventh marriage.

In his statement, the youngster stated that his father had married his mother as his third wife and had previously been married twice. He said that his father's sixth marriage occurred in 2024, Free Press Journal reported.

According to the boy, the sixth wife stayed for a few days and then started demanding that the father transfer land in her name. When the demand was not met, she allegedly asked for jewellery and later left.

The boy claimed that his father is currently in contact with certain people to organise another marriage and has even received an advance of Rs 50,000 from someone after offering to sell the remaining land. He also stated that his father had mortgaged more than half of the family's land in the past.

He also said that he had repaid his father's debts multiple times. The boy, a Class 12 student, informed authorities that his father had previously forced him to work for money. He stated he currently resides outside the village but returned to take his Class 12 exams.

Police stated that they have received the report and would investigate the charges. SHO Amit Kumar Mishra stated that efforts will be made to counsel the father following an investigation into the matter.
