New Delhi: Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar from Karnataka, a fourth year Medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, has lost his life in the Russian firing in Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv. According to reports, Naveen was one of the victims in the Russian shelling in Kharkiv this morning.
According to reports, Naveen was in the queue for groceries when Russian military unleashed wanton firing at people.
Announcing the death of the first Indian after Russia began the war in Ukraine, the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted "With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family.We convey our deepest condolences to the family."
Reports suggested that a Russian rocket attack claimed the lives of over 70 Ukrainian servicemen and dozens of civilians have succumbed to frantic Russian shelling.
The videos from Kharkiv confirm the amount of destruction inflicted in the city by the Russian military.
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv urged all Indians, including students, to find available means to escape the Capital city immediately.
Around 16,000 Indian students are still stranded in Ukraine for not having safe transportation to reach borders. Many students have shared photos and videos on social media from underground bunkers, metro stations and bomb shelters, where they have been hiding since the Russian attack started last Thursday. Around 8,000 Indian nationals have left by various special flights.
