Man wheels ailing mother 2 km to MLA’s house over alleged hospital negligence in Telangana

Hyderabad: A man in Telangana’s Mancherial district pushed his sick mother in a wheelchair for two kilometres to the local MLA’s residence on Tuesday night, protesting what he described as gross negligence by staff at the district government hospital.

Raj Kumar said his mother, Bukiya Bujji (55), from Pulimadugu village in Mandamarri mandal, was suffering from a kidney-related ailment and had come to the Mancherial district hospital for treatment. He alleged that hospital staff kept her waiting in a wheelchair for five hours without attending to her or arranging a bed.

Claiming his repeated requests for treatment were ignored, Raj Kumar said he even asked officials to refer the patient to the government hospital in Karimnagar, but was told to take her to a private facility instead. Frustrated, he decided to wheel her to the house of Mancherial MLA K. Premsagar Rao to seek intervention.

After learning of the incident, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the district hospital rushed to the MLA’s residence and assured the pair that proper medical care would be provided. Following this, Bukiya Bujji was brought back to the hospital, where a bed was arranged and her treatment began. Hospital authorities also promised an inquiry into the alleged negligence in attending to the patient.
