Chennai: A man got arrested in Chennai after he allegedly threw a petrol bomb at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in the wee hours of Thursday, NDTV reported.
The man, identified as Vinod, told probe officials that he was content with the BJP party's stand on the entrance test for medical admission, NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).
The investigators told NDTV that the man has relations to no political organisation, and he had committed similar acts twice before when he became unhappy. He had thrown petrol bombs at the Teynampet police station as well as a government liquor store in 2017. The investigation is going on, NDTV was informed.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Karate R Thiagarajan alleged that the attempt was to sabotage their poll work for the upcoming urban local body polls. He said that the party could not be intimidated by such threats. There should be a detailed investigation and action against all the responsible.
The Tamil Nadu's MK Stalin government had unanimously passed the NEET exemption bill in the state for the second time and had submitted it before the governor on Tuesday. Before the vote for the bill, BJP walked out from the assembly, stating they favour NEET.
A week ago, the Tamil Nadu governor had returned the bill stating that it would be against the interests of rural and poor students.
The NEET issue gathered attention again after 20 students, including toppers, committed suicide after failing to crack the test or score enough marks. Both ruling DMK' and opposing AIADMK' stand is that NEET favours affluent candidates who could afford private coaching but poor candidates cannot.
